Mumbai (Commositiescontrol) - ICE cotton on-call sales in most-active December contract reduced 1,816 contracts to 20,745 contracts. On-call purchases increased 288 contracts to 12,525 contracts during the week ended 28 August, as per CFTC report.
ICE cotton on-call sales in March contract also jumped 274 contracts to 17,177 contracts. On-call purchases increased 1,709 contracts to 2,817 contracts.
Cotton prices may trade sideways in the coming sessions in December contract. The data showed that speculators squared-up their short position ahead of an expected increase in crude oil prices coupled with reports of lower output in the U.S.
Total on-call sales on all active futures reduced 1,271 contracts to 62,016 and total purchasers increased buying position by 2,095 contracts to 23,537 contracts.
On-call positions represent spot cotton sold to or purchased from a merchant, based out of New York cotton futures contracts of 500-pound bales. Prices are not yet fixed against these contracts.
Open interests in December futures reduced 18,174 to 126,736 contracts. Total open interest on all futures down 16,568 contracts to 180,092 contracts. At the same time, open interest in March futures increased 1,095 contracts to 40,603.
