New Delhi, 24 July (Commoditiescontrol) The unrelenting rainfall in Maharastra and Goa have inundated sereval districts of western coastal belts. Maharashtra is facing monsoon fury and flood situation is reportedly grim in the state. More than 100 people have died in the incidents related to landslides and floodwaters in Maharashtra, said a report on Satuday. Flood like situation is also reported from Karnataka due to torrential rains.
The Central and Peninsular India barring Gujarat received heavy downpour previous day but Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan in Northwest region witnessed deficient rains while Punjab had large deficient rainfall on Friday. East and Northeast India including Bihar and Jharkhand received either deficient of large deficient rains.
Out of 36 meteorological subdivions of the country, large excess and excess rains occurred in 11 and 4 subdivisions respectively previous day. As per IMD updates, 5 subdivions received normal rains while deficient and large deficient rainfall was received in 7 and 9 subdivisions respectively.
Rainfall received in the country during the monsoon season so far (June1-July 23) is 367.6 mm, 2 percent below normal of 375.3 mm. Around 10 subdivions covering 27 percent area of the country witnessed deficient rains while 15 subdivions received normal rainfall, excess and large excess rains were in 7 and 4 subdivions respectively.
Peninsular India received 29 percent excess rains during June 1-July 23. The central India received 2 percent below normal rains while northwest part of the country witnessed 10 percent below normal rainfall. Rainfall received in east and northeast parts of the country is 15 percent below normal during June 1 to July 23 in the current monsoon season.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Gujarat on 24 July and next two days. Farily widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likey to continue over east and adjoining central India during 24th-25th July with reduction thereafter.
Extremely heavy rainfalls are also expected over West Madhya Pradesh today.
