New Delhi, 2 July (Commoditiescontrol) The agricultural activities as well as the sown crops are likely to be affected as no progress in the southwest monsoon is seen in next one week, as per the predictions of India Meteorological Department. However, the national weather forecaster expects normal rains over the country as a whole in the month of July.
“MME probability forecast suggest that the 2021 July rainfall averaged over the country as a whole is most likely to be normal (94 to 106 % of LPA). Below normal to normal rainfall probability is likely over many areas of northwest India and some parts of south peninsula, central, east and northeast India. Normal to above normal rainfall is most likely to experience over parts of central India and adjacent areas of peninsular India and Gangetic plains, said IMD on Thursday.
Prevailing meteorological conditions, large scale atmospheric features and the forecast wind pattern by dynamical models suggest subdued rainfall activity to continue over Northwest, Central and Western parts of Peninsular India during next 7 days, said per the IMD.
Isolated/scattered thunderstorm activity accompanied with lightning & rainfall is also likely over these regions during this period, said weather forecaster.
Under such conditions, further advance of southwest monsoon are not likely into remaining parts of country is unlikely during next 7 days.
“It is likely to impact agricultural operations like sowing and transplantation of crops, irrigation scheduling, power requirement. However the normal transplanting window for Rice as well as sowing of other major crops is the month of July in NW (maximum irrigated) and Central India. Early sown crops will require protective irrigation or to conserve soil moisture to prevent evaporation losses,” said IMD.
The monsoon has covered most parts of the country except parts of Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. But, no progress was observed since 19th June. The country received 10 percent above normal rains in the month of June this year.
