New Delhi, 19 July (Commoditiescontrol): Ahead of monsoon session of Parliament commencing today, the national capital of Delhi and its adjoining areas were greeted by a wet morning on Monday.Delhi is expected to receive more rainfall, as per the national weather forecaster.
Extremely heavy rainfalls are expected at isolated places over Uttarakhand and northwest Uttar Pradesh today and moderate to heavy rains may occur in Delhi and Chandigarh, said India Metrological Department (IMD) on Monday in its morning weather forecast.
As per the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely to occur in Western Himalayan region and adjoining northwest India including Punjab,Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh from July 19-21 while rainfall activity will decrease in the same region thereafter.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level lies north of its normal position and is likely to continue there during next 2 days and shift southwards thereafter.
An off-shore trough at mean sea level runs from Maharashtra coast to Karnataka coast. It is likely to persist during next 4-5 days and a shear zone runs roughly along Lat. 17°N in mid tropospheric levels and likely to persists during next 24 hours.
Monsoon rains remained 8 percent below normal in the country during June 1 to July 18, as per the IMD’s latest updates. East and north east India received 12 percent below normal, while northwest part of the country has 21 percent deficient rains. Monsoon rains remained 11 percent below normal in central India while south peninsular region received 19 percent above normal rains.
Previous day, IMD said that monsoon rainfall was 10 percent above normal in the month of June, but 26 percent deficient till date in July.
