Burma Lemon Tur:

Tur Lemon variety of Burma-origin new weakened by Rs 250/100kg to Rs 5,900/100Kg, in Mumbai, on thin buying from millers as demand and sale counters in processed Tur was thin from consumption centers.

Also, Nafed Approved Bid of 510 MT Tur Kharif 2019 at Rs 6,201/100Kg in Maharashtra on 21st November, 2020.

Regular supplies of cheaper Tur from Africa, Government agencies actively liquidating stocks, along with resellers being active in the market has kept prices under pressure.

Government agency is selling old raw tur to the mills for processing, packaging and supply of processed Tur under PDS.

Government tenders of dal are expected in the near future from states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

As per Burma-based local trader, arrivals of new Tur crop is expected to begin within fortnight. New crop is expected to be around 3 Lakh tonnes. Carry over stock is approximately 1 lakh tonnes.

Moreover, sentiments were dampened as Urad prices quoted lower in forward business at Chennai. Arrival of new Urad is likely to commence from next month at Dindigul / Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu) and Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

Supplies of new Urad crop have begun in Chandausi (Uttar Pradesh). As per local trader, crop is similar compared to last year and arrivals are likely to continue for 2-2.5 months.

As per Burma based local trader new Urad crop is likely to start from January. Carry over stock is around 1.5-2 Lakh tonnes.

Sentiments are still under pressure as Government has taken several steps towards cooling off the prices--by giving import quota, liquidating old procured stock and releasing buffer stock at subsidised rate to the states for retail sale.

DGFT allocated import quota of Urad for the current FY up to March 2021. As per the notification each eligible and verified importer shall be allowed to import 97 MTs approximately. Some millers and importers have started getting license from government. But, no buyers are interested in importing.

The government has entered a five-year MoU with Myanmar for imports of 2.5 lakh tonnes of urad.
