MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Rainfall in major chilli growing areas were below normal levels however it was consistently rained which is likely to help in increasing soil moisture. In some of the areas in Guntur, farmers have already gone for nursery sowing. If rainfall remains favourable, the price may witness a slight decline from the current levels.
Market arrivals
Arrivals in Guntur market reported well during the week. The price of Teja variety touched INR 121 per kg levels on the higher side. The increase in the price can be attributed to demand for Indian chilli from the overseas market. However, the availability of premium varieties in the cold stores are very limited which triggered the prices. The price may come down post sowing commencement.
For the current year, China started importing Indian chilli directly from India due to cross border issues between Vietnam and China. China imported around 68,000 MT of chilli during the first four months of 2019.
