Mumbai, May 16 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices in major markets experienced a slight decline, although they remained above Rs 2,000 per kilogram due to sustained demand. Export demand notably bolstered prices at elevated levels, even as slight weakness was observed.

The average price hovered around Rs 2,008-2,010 per kilogram, down from Rs 2,028 per kilogram in the previous session. Despite this, the highest reported price per kilogram stood at Rs 2,871, marking an increase from Rs 2,537 per kilogram previously.

Arrivals surged significantly as two centers were opened, totaling 104,723 kilograms compared to 49,018 kilograms in the previous session. Offtake mirrored this uptick, reaching 101,674 kilograms, showcasing robust demand. However, the offtake rate marginally increased to 97.1% from 97.0% in the prior session.

Grade-specific rates remained stable, with prices for 7 mm grades ranging between Rs 1,780 and Rs 1,840 per kilogram, Rs 1,960 to Rs 2,040 per kilogram for grades 7-8 mm, and Rs 2,200 to Rs 2,360 per kilogram for grades 8 mm and higher.

Meanwhile, large cardamom prices in the North East's major markets retained firmness on the back of heightened demand. Both Badadana and Chotadana prices saw an uptick, with Badadana prices ranging between Rs 1,362 and 1,650 per kilogram, and Chotadana prices between Rs 1,250 and 1,462 per kilogram, marking an increase of Rs 125 to 150 per quintal.

Overall, while small cardamom prices experienced a marginal decline, sustained demand and firmness in large cardamom prices signal continued market strength.
