Ahmedabad, June 22 (CommoditiesControl): Today, cumin prices in Gujarat saw an improvement of Rs 50 per 20 kg. Despite lower arrivals, the market received support from local demand. Discussions in the market suggest that India's cumin production may increase significantly this year compared to last year's figures.

Last year, India produced 60 lakh bags of cumin, and this year's projection stands at 1 crore bags. Similarly, other major cumin-producing countries like China, Syria, Turkey, and Afghanistan are also expected to see increased production this year. Overall, global cumin production is expected to rise to 2 crore 12 thousand tons compared to 1 crore 12 thousand tons last year.

Currently, farmers in India have brought only 43 lakh bags of cumin to the market, leaving around 57 lakh bags yet to be sold. Farmers, similar to last year, are holding onto their produce in anticipation of higher prices, although a downward trend is anticipated in the cumin market in the near future.

In today's trading, approximately 17,000 bags arrived at Unjha Mandi. Rough cumin was priced at Rs 4,900-5,000 per 20 kg, the best quality fetched Rs 5,450-5,550 per 20 kg, and Bombay Bold cumin sold for Rs 5,550-5,600 per 20 kg. Across Gujarat, around 28,000 bags of cumin were received.

In the Gondal market, 1,411 bags of cumin were traded at Rs 5,471-5,671 per 20 kg. Rajkot market reported around 1,700 bags with prices ranging from Rs 4,750 to Rs 5,634 per 20 kg.
