Mumbai, 08 Nov 2023 (Commoditiescontrol):Canadian lentil exports for the 2023/24 season up to September reached 247,824 tonnes, a significant decrease from the 397,405 tonnes exported at the same point in the previous year. While green lentil exports remained stable at 55,656 tonnes, exports of red lentils fell sharply by 43%, amounting to 152,985 tonnes.

India emerged as the top importer of Canadian lentils, purchasing 113,877 tonnes, an increase from last year's 97,988 tonnes during the same period. Nevertheless, this rise was overshadowed by steep drops in exports to Turkey, Bangladesh, and other nations, culminating in an overall decline in Canadian lentil exports.

According to Statistics Canada, the country's lentil production for the year is estimated at 2.8 million tonnes, marking a reduction of approximately one million tonnes from the previous year.

Current market prices for red lentils peak at 40 cents per pound, while prices for large green lentils vary between 60 to 66 cents per pound in Western Canada, as reported by Prairie Ag Hotwire.
