Mumbai, 23 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Most major masur mandis across India were closed today in observance of Hanuman Jayanti. However, the Jabalpur mandi remained operational with prices holding unchanged.
Domestic markets were also closed for the holiday. In Kanpur, limited supply resulted in a Rs 25 per quintal price increase. Other consuming markets reported largely stable prices. Activity in imported markets was subdued, with few inquiries noted.
Prices for masur are expected to remain range-bound in the immediate future. Farmers are awaiting the start of government buying at MSP (Minimum Support Price), which could lead to increased market arrivals. Internationally, a bumper crop is anticipated in Canada with supplies available by September/October, followed by Australia's crop in November. This ample supply is likely to put downward pressure on masur prices.
