Mumbai, 23 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Moong prices held steady despite slow trading activity due to the Hanuman Jayanti holiday, which resulted in the closure of most mandi (wholesale markets) in Madhya Pradesh.
Trade sources indicate that farmers in Madhya Pradesh may increase moong acreage for the kharif (summer) crop, switching from soybean cultivation. This shift, combined with the National Food Security Mission's (NFSM) record-breaking summer acreage figures of 10.4 lakh hectares planted with moong, suggests an increased supply in the coming months.
Additionally, an expected early start to kharif moong sowing in Karnataka could further pressure moong prices downward.
