Mumbai, May 8 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices in major markets experienced an upward trend driven by robust demand despite lower arrivals. The high demand has been instrumental in supporting prices in the market.
The average price per kilogram exhibited a mixed trend, with prices declining in one center but rising in another. Prices ranged between Rs 1,997 and Rs 2,072 per kilogram, compared to the previous session's range of Rs 1,911 to Rs 2,011. The highest reported price per kilogram stood at Rs 2,730, a slight increase from Rs 2,677 recorded in the previous session.
Arrivals were reported at 88,603 kilograms, a slight increase from 84,386 kilograms in the previous session. Offtake, however, witnessed a more significant rise, reaching 86,548 kilograms compared to 82,496 kilograms in the previous session. This increase in offtake was attributed to higher arrivals. Despite this, the offtake rate remained stable at 97.7%, nearly identical to the previous session. The higher-than-expected arrivals have placed some pressure on demand dynamics.
Grade-specific rates have remained consistent, with prices ranging between Rs 1,740 and Rs 1,820 per kilogram for 7 mm grades, Rs 1,920 to Rs 2,000 per kilogram for grades 7-8 mm, and Rs 2,200 to Rs 2,360 per kilogram for grades 8 mm and above.
