New Delhi, May 20 (Commodities Control): Small cardamom prices have continued to show downward trend, marking a decline for the third consecutive session. The prices are trading below Rs 2,000 per kg, primarily due to weak demand at the higher price points. Despite strong demand in certain centers, prices have not rebounded significantly.

The average price for small cardamom was reported at Rs 1,852-1,965 per kg, a slight decrease from Rs 1,966-1,984 per kg in the previous session. The highest price recorded per kilogram was Rs 2,821, down from Rs 2,853 in the prior session.

Cardamom arrivals have drastically decreased, remaining below 1.0 lakh kilograms for the second session. Total arrivals stood at 67,418 kg, a significant drop from 93,758 kg in the previous session. Correspondingly, the offtake was reported at 65,572 kg, down from 87,270 kg in the previous session. The offtake rate, however, was 93.1%, down from 97.3%, reflecting a still strong but slightly diminished demand.

Grade-specific prices have remained stable despite the weaker session. Prices for 7 mm grades ranged between Rs 1,720 and Rs 1,780 per kg. Grades between 7-8 mm were priced between Rs 1,900 and Rs 1,980 per kg. For grades 8 mm and above, prices ranged from Rs 2,120 to Rs 2,250 per kg.

Local market sources indicate that while the demand remains robust in some areas, the overall weak demand at higher prices continues to exert downward pressure on the market. The stability in grade-specific prices suggests that while the market is experiencing a general decline, the quality grades maintain their value, reflecting consistent buyer interest in higher quality produce.

Overall, the small cardamom market is currently experiencing a notable decline in prices due to decreased arrivals and weak demand at elevated price levels. Despite this, specific grade prices have remained stable, indicating a continued interest in premium quality cardamom.
