Mumbai, June 19 (Commoditiescontrol): Chilli prices showed a mixed trend across major markets, with prices remaining stable in Guntur, falling in Khammam, and rising in Warangal. Local sources attribute the price fluctuations to heavy rainfall in key chilli growing regions, raising concerns among buyers about potential acreage reduction. Additionally, the continuous high arrivals have exerted downward pressure on spot market prices.
In terms of arrivals, a total of 92,000 bags were reported, with the majority sourced from cold storage facilities. Guntur saw an increase in arrivals to 80,000 bags, up by 5,000 from the previous session. Khammam experienced a decrease, reporting 5,000 bags, down by 5,000 from the previous session. Warangal also saw a decrease, with arrivals of 7,000 bags, down by 1,000 from the previous session. Non-air-conditioned bag arrivals were expected to range between 12,000 and 15,000 across various markets.
Market analysts expect chilli prices to remain range-bound with a negative bias in the short term due to the high level of arrivals. Despite this, the full capacity of cold storage facilities indicates an adequate supply, and with low export demand, significant price increases are unlikely in the near future.
