Mumbai, June 25 (CommoditiesControl): Pepper prices in major domestic markets fell for the third consecutive session, dropping by Rs 500 per quintal as global prices continued to decline. Despite this trend, local traders report that farmers and stockists are reluctant to sell their produce, which may help support prices.

In Cochin, the price for garbled pepper remains stable at Rs 69,700 per quintal, while ungarbled pepper is priced at Rs 67,700 per quintal. In Karnataka, pepper prices range from Rs 67,800 to Rs 70,000 per quintal. However, the situation is worsened by significantly lower rainfall—30-40% below normal levels—in key pepper-growing districts in Kerala and Karnataka.

Internationally, pepper prices in Vietnam have stabilized following a sharp fall of VND 40,000-45,000 per kilogram from recent highs after Eid. Current prices in major Vietnamese provinces range between VND 145,000 and VND 146,000 per kilogram. The prices are expected to stabilize further in the coming days due to a short supply. Except for Malaysia, where prices remained relatively stable, global pepper prices have fallen sharply, ranging from 4% to 10%.
