Mumbai, May 14 (CommoditiesControl):Ukraine is projected to maintain its position as the world's leading exporter of sunflower oil, despite a slight decrease in production for the 2024/25 marketing year (MY), according to a recent USDA report.
The report forecasts Ukraine's sunflower seed harvest to reach 14.7 million tons in 2024/25 MY, a modest increase of 200,000 tons compared to the previous year. While sunflower oil production is expected to dip slightly to 6.15 million tons (a decrease of 170,000 tons), the country is still anticipated to export a significant 5.72 million tons.
Meal production is also projected to experience a minor decline to 5.9 million tons, with exports estimated at 4.5 million tons.
"Sunflower processing in Ukraine will be slightly down year-on-year, but Ukraine is expected to remain the world's largest exporter of both sunflower meal and oil, accounting for almost half of global exports," the USDA report stated.
This resilience in exports, despite the slight dip in production, underscores Ukraine's continued dominance in the global sunflower oil market.
