New Delhi, Feb 13 (Commoditiescontrol): Maize prices remained steady today, with the market balancing current supplies and demand. The steady prices were supported by declining kharif arrivals, providing a positive influence, while the relatively good stock position with buyers limited gains in prices.

In Maharashtra, maize prices traded almost steady at Rs 2320 per quintal. Regular buying from poultry and ethanol buyers was observed, although starch producers showed some reluctance in purchasing, likely due to prior bookings of imported cargoes.

Tamil Nadu reported steady prices at Rs 2370 per quintal, driven by active stocking. Markets in Tamil Nadu are expected to settle at this level, with no further significant rise anticipated.

Chhindwara witnessed kharif arrivals of around 9000 quintals, and prices remained almost steady at Rs 2280 per quintal.

In Kolkata and Kharagpur, maize prices have been trading steadily at Rs 2525-2550 per quintal in recent days. Demand from bulk buyers is relatively sluggish at present.

Assam's crop is anticipated to start arriving from the first week of March, with loading for outside states commencing in mid-March. West Bengal's crop is expected to start arriving from late March, post-Holi.

Bihar saw maize prices trading steady to weak at Rs 2325 per quintal, as stockists liquidating stocks exerted pressure on prices.

Maize prices remained steady across major centers. Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand buyers maintained steady purchase rates, with few buyers less active due to recent substantial purchases. Prices in Punjab and Haryana were recorded at Rs 2550-2575 per quintal.

In Seetapur, an ethanol-producing buyer halted purchases temporarily, having already acquired bulk quantities in recent weeks. However, other ethanol-producing buyers remained active in the range of Rs 2400-2420.

Overall, maize prices are expected to remain steady to marginally firm in the near term, potentially declining in March and April as the new crop arrives in Bihar.
