Mumbai, July 26 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices have fallen despite reduced arrivals at the auction center, driven by weak demand. Traders report that heavy rains in major consumption centers have slowed trading activity.
Weather conditions have been favorable for crop development in major cardamom-growing regions, with good rains reported over the last 18-20 days. This has reduced the overall rainfall deficit from 24% to 13%, benefiting crop growth according to local sources.
The average price per kilogram of small cardamom has dropped from Rs 2,267-2,278 to Rs 2,245/kg. However, the maximum price per kilogram has slightly increased from Rs 2,705 to Rs 2,740.
Arrivals decreased from 41,174 kg to 23,413 kg, marking the fourth consecutive session with arrivals below 50,000 kgs. Excessive rains have been cited as a factor limiting arrivals. The offtake also declined from 40,915 kg to 22,328 kg, with the offtake rate decreasing to 95.4% from 99.4% in the previous session, indicating slower buying activity.
Grade-specific rates have remained stable during this period. Prices for different grades are as follows:
- 7 mm grades: Rs 2,080 to Rs 2,160 per kg
- 7-8 mm grades: Rs 2,280 to Rs 2,360 per kg
- 8 mm and above grades: Rs 2,480 to Rs 2,660 per kg
