MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Kharif Urad sowing in the country continued to moved up due to shift in farmer’s interest amid better remuneration in pulses complex.
According to most recent sowing data released by agriculture department, Urad acreage in the country as on July 28 jumped up by 27.85% at 35.17 lakh hectares against 28.29 lakh hectares same period a year ago.
The sharp rise in acreage was witnessed in major states such as Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh as better prices in commodity encouraged farmers.
Urad acreage rose sharply in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as farmers have shifted from Soyabean to Urad amid better realization.
According to weather report, scanty monsoon rain in Karnataka and some parts of Maharashtra has put kharif crops under moisture stress. Hence, if rainfall does not improve in coming days then that could damage the crop in the affected parts.
