Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Red chilli prices were mixed today across Guntur and Warangal mandis as buyers waited on the sidelines for the prices to cool off/settle. Meanwhile arrivals reduced for the second straight session on Thursday at Guntur mandi of Andhra Pradesh.

Guntur registered arrivals of 75,000 bags vs 90,000 bags in the previous session. Most of the varieties were reported weak-to-steady as demand halts at higher price levels. Half the chilli varieties weakened, while some upped and rest were unchanged in their respective prices.

Export-quality Teja shed Rs 5 to be quoted at Rs 150-170 per Kg, while DD and 334 lost Rs 3 each to be quoted at Rs 130-165 and Rs 115-135 per Kg, respectively. Meanwhile No.5 and 341 managed to add Rs 2.

Warangal registered steady arrivals of 8,000 bags for the third session in a row. Red chilli varieties - Teja and 334 lost Rs 8 and Rs 3 to be priced at Rs 150-170 and Rs 120-130 per Kg, respectively. Meanwhile, Wonderhot upped Rs 2 per Kg today, while rest were quoted steady.

Guntur-based traders expect buying to be back in full force once the price falls or settles. Given the robust demand for deluxe/premium chilli varieties and the supply deficit, the market is expected to bounce back stronger.
