Mumbai, 13 September (Commoditiescontrol): Cotton prices were steady in the markets of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Monday amid subdued demand from mills, while daily arrivals in the mandis of these states ranged between 300 and 400 bales.

Spinners in these states have sufficient stock for more than a month’s consumption. So, the mills want to utilise their stock before the arrival of the new crop. Hence, the demand from the mills remains weak in the spot market. Traders said that if the weather remains favourable, the arrival of new kapas will start in the mandis of these states by the end of the current month, while the arrivals are expected to increase in the next month. Although there are reports of damage to kapas due to excessive rains in some places, but overall the production of kapas in these states is expected to be higher than last year. Therefore, limited fluctuation is expected to remain in cotton prices in the spot market.

On NCDEX, the April'22 futures kapas contract fell by 0.14 percent, while the October futures cotton contract on MCX declined by Rs 240 to Rs 25,500 per bale (1 bale – 170kg).

Today the daily arrivals ranged from 400 to 500 bales in the mandis of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
