Jaipur, Dec 3 (Commoditiescontrol) Mustard seed prices stayed steady in the major markets of the country on Saturday while prices of mustard oil and cake continued their downward trends amid weak demand. Apart from this high acreage has also impacted prices of mustard seed.
However, mustard seed prices are unlikely to fall further in near futures as the existing stocks of mustard seed are very low. As per a Jaipur based researcher, the existing stocks of mustard seed with stockiest, plants and farmers are only 17.50 lakh tonnes which may be used for crushing purposes during December and January.
The arrivals of new crop may begin in the end of February or March.
Prices of mustard seed with 42% conditioned stayed steady at Rs 6700-6725 per quintal (excluding GST) in the benchmark market of Jaipur.
Mustard oil expeller prices further dropped Rs 10 to Rs 1341-1342 per 10kg and prices of Kachchi Ghani also dropped Rs 10 to Rs 1351-1352 per 10kg.
Mustard cake prices declined Rs 5 to Rs 2580-2585 per quintal.
Arrivals of mustard seed were estimated 85000 bags in Rajasthan, 15,000 bags in Madhya Pradesh,20,000 bags in Uttar Pradesh, 15,000 bags in Haryana and Punjab, 5,000 bags in Gujarat, and 60,000 bags in other markets. Total arrivals across the country were around 2 lakh bags of 80 kg each, down 40,000 bags from the last session.
The acreage of oilseed crops rose to 83.07 lakh hectare in the current rabi, which is more than 75.55 lakh hectare recorded in the same period last year. Area under mustard, the main crop of rabi oilseeds, is current ly 76.69 lakh hectare in the current rabi, compared to 69.32 lakh hectare in the corresponding year ago period.
