Mumbai, 16 April 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Urad prices in India are showing a divergence today, with southern markets experiencing weakness while northern markets remain relatively stable.
In southern India, urad prices are declining in major mandis, mirroring a drop in prices for Burmese SQ urad in Chennai. Conversely, northern markets are seeing price stability after recent decreases. Myanmar markets remain closed for the Water Festival.
Imported urad prices have fallen by Rs 50-100 per quintal, driven by anticipated arrivals of Burmese cargo that was shipped before the festival and slow demand for urad dal.
Experts predict that limited domestic supply will likely lend support to urad prices in the coming days. While the summer crop, expected in late May or early June, could temper prices, the government's ongoing efforts to manage prices may offset any sharp increases. Additionally, seasonal factors point to subdued prices for urad dal as demand typically tapers off in the summer months.
