Mumbai, 18 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Kabuli chana (chickpea) prices in Indore's mandi and container trade held firm despite a slight increase in arrivals. Market stability extended to other Kabuli-producing regions as well.1
Traders indicate that farmers possess a substantial crop of Kabuli chana. However, most of the existing stock is rain-damaged and of lower quality, while the supply of premium Kabuli remains limited.
Arrivals at the Indore mandi totaled 5,600 bags, up from the previous session's volume of 5,000 bags. Total arrivals in the state of Madhya Pradesh's Kabuli-growing regions were reported between 30,000 and 32,000 bags, remaining consistent with the previous session.
Market Outlook
Kabuli prices are expected to trade within a range. Ample supply of smaller-sized or higher-count Kabuli chana coincides with robust domestic demand for this variety. In contrast, larger-sized or lower-count Kabuli, which cater primarily to export demand, face limited supply. However, export demand is also sluggish due to competition from Mexico and Canada. Furthermore, tensions in the Middle East, a major Kabuli chana buyer, could further dampen export demand.
