New Delhi, April 24 (Commodities Control): Kapas arrival in Madhya Pradesh's mandis is gradually declining, leading to higher prices in the region. On Wednesday, the arrival of Kapas in Dhamnod mandi was 378 quintals, and prices remained in the range of Rs. 6,005 to Rs. 7,285 per quintal. In Khargone's Karhi mandi, only 25 quintals of Kapas arrived, with prices quoted between Rs. 4,005 and Rs. 6,200 per quintal based on quality.
Kapas prices in Khargone are currently quoted between Rs. 6,500 and Rs. 6,900 per quintal, showing a decrease from the previous range of Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 7,700 per quintal, as reported by traders.
According to officials from CCI Indore, approximately 80 to 85 percent of the total Kapas produced in the state has already arrived in the mandis. With Kapas prices significantly above the MSP, CCI's purchasing operations are currently on hold.
Kailash Aggarwal, President of Madhya Pradesh Cotton Processors and Ginners Association, stated that Kapas is predominantly grown in districts like Khargone, Khandwa, Barwani, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Ratlam, and Dhar in Madhya Pradesh. This year, around 85 percent of the cotton crop has been brought to the mandis, with the remaining expected to arrive over the next 10 to 15 days. Sowing of new cotton is slated to commence from May 25.
CCI reports suggest that Madhya Pradesh contributes to approximately 19 to 20 lakh bales of cotton annually, with an estimated area of about 6 lakh hectares. Khargone alone accounts for around 2 lakh hectares of cultivation. The area and production of cotton in Madhya Pradesh are anticipated to remain consistent this year.
