New Delhi, March 5 (Commoditiescontrol): Chana prices witnessed a predominantly weak trend as arrivals surged in major markets, fueled by dry weather conditions. The anticipation of sustained clear and dry weather suggests that arrivals are likely to remain elevated, influencing prices in the market. However, contrasting this scenario, reports indicate crop damage in key regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan due to hail and heavy rain, thereby providing some support to prices. Government procurement activities continue to contribute to the prevailing high prices of chana, but demand from dal manufacturers has reportedly weakened.
Despite the constraints on supply, chana prices have not exhibited the expected upward trajectory. One significant factor influencing this trend is the import of peas (matar). The government is reportedly contemplating extending imports until June, considering the current Rabi pulses supply. This strategic move is expected to serve as a limiting factor, preventing aggressive price gains in the chana market.
