Mumbai,02 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Kabuli Chana (Kabuli chickpea) prices in Indore's major markets have jumped by ₹200 per quintal due to a drastic drop in arrivals following the Holi festival.
Arrivals at the Indore mandi stand at only 3,000 bags, plummeting from a pre-Holi average of 5,000-6,000 bags daily. Statewide arrivals in Madhya Pradesh's Kabuli growing areas are also down by more than half, estimated at 18,000-20,000 bags compared to 40,000-42,000 bags before the market closure.
This supply shortage has triggered the price increase, despite the markets reopening. Market experts anticipate a gradual improvement in arrivals over the coming days.
Container prices for all counts of Kabuli Chana have increased by ₹100 per quintal, reflecting lower supply and steady demand. However, analysts suggest this upward trend may be capped as arrivals normalize and immediate post-holiday demand subsides.
