Ahmedabad, April 11 (CommoditiesControl): The cotton markets of Gujarat are witnessing subdued activity today, attributed to the celebrations of Eid which has led to a holiday-like atmosphere. With some markets barely operational, the day has seen a further decline in cotton prices, driven by a continuing lack of demand from spinning mills.
In a notable shift, cotton prices have decline by Rs 150-200 per candy. This downturn reflects the diminished buyer interest which has also led to a decrease in Kapas prices by Rs 10 per 20 kg.
The price for 29mm cotton stands at Rs 59,800 to Rs 60,000 per candy, with each candy equivalent to 356 kg. Meanwhile, 28.5mm cotton is slightly lower at Rs 59,200 to Rs 59,300 per candy. The V 797 variety, on the other hand, is quoted between Rs 39,500 and Rs 39,800 per candy. Kapas prices have been noted to average between Rs 1,350 and Rs 1,550 per maund, with a maund equaling 20 kg. Today's market has seen an arrival of around 10,000 bales of cotton, with each bale weighing 170 kg.
