Mumbai, March 26 (Commodities Control): In major markets, small cardamom prices witnessed a significant decline alongside a surge in arrivals.
The subdued demand at higher price levels contributed to the overall depression in cardamom prices across major markets. Additionally, the influx of increased arrivals exerted further downward pressure on prices within domestic markets. Notably, arrivals surpassed 1.0 lakh kg for the second consecutive session, marking a substantial increase compared to the previous week's figures.
The average price per kilogram dipped from Rs 1,461-1,564 in the previous session to Rs 1,423-1,427, indicating a notable downturn. Furthermore, the maximum price per kilogram observed a significant drop from Rs 1,974 to Rs 1,930. Despite trading above Rs 1,500 for several sessions, average prices dipped below this threshold, reflecting the severity of the price decline.
Reports suggest that grade-specific rates have exhibited relative stability amidst the overall price drop. Prices for 7 mm grades ranged from Rs 1,560 to Rs 1,650 per kg, while grades 7-8 mm were priced between Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,740 per kg. Higher-grade variants of 8 mm and above commanded prices ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,140 per kg.
Arrivals surged dramatically, maintaining levels above 1.0 lakh kgs during the second session. The latest data indicates a rise in arrivals to 134,166 kg from 112,377 kg recorded in the previous session. Concurrently, the total offtake surged to 129,451 kg, up from 109,990 kg in the previous session, driven by the increased arrivals. Despite the recent price decline, demand remained robust, with a daily offtake reaching 96.5%.
