Mumbai, 22 Feb 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Maize prices traded steady to firm across major Indian centers today, supported by improved buying and decreasing kharif arrivals. In Maharashtra, prices firmed slightly with an improvement of around INR 25 per quintal in the Sangli zone. Prices ranged from INR 2350-2375 per quintal in Sangli and INR 2325 per quintal in Jalgaon. Gulabbagh prices held steady to slightly firm at INR 2320-2370. Poultry buyers from the North and Uttar Pradesh are sourcing maize from Bihar due to quality concerns elsewhere. Bihar sellers remain reluctant to sell at current rates. Prices remained stable in Chindwara, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Kolkata and Kharagpur markets also saw steady prices.
Assam crop arrivals are expected in early March, with loading for other states starting mid-March. West Bengal's crop is anticipated after Holi (late March). With no significant crop supplies expected in the next month, maize prices are likely to remain steady to firm in the near term.
