New Delhi, March 15 (CommoditiesControl): Maize prices maintained stability across major centers, with buyers exercising caution ahead of the new crop season. The liquidation of stocks by stockists has ensured relatively comfortable supplies in the market.

In Southern India, the emergence of small new maize arrivals in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has exerted pressure on sentiments. However, buyers in North India, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, are hesitant to purchase at elevated rates in anticipation of the new Bihar crop.

In Pune, maize prices remained steady at INR 2480 per quintal, mirroring similar rates in Gujarat. Buyers from Gujarat, Pune, and Madhya Pradesh are active in the market, but they are obtaining maize according to their immediate requirements as stockists anticipate a muted price surge.

Meanwhile, maize prices in Maharashtra traded at INR 2325-2350 per quintal. With a few more weeks until substantial new arrivals develop, maize prices are expected to remain steady or experience slight upward movement. However, significant price hikes appear unlikely as robust arrivals are anticipated in North Maharashtra mandis from the beginning of April.

Bihar witnessed slightly steady maize prices at INR 2400-2425 per quintal, with stockists reducing their inventories while buyers exercised caution ahead of the new crop.

In Karnataka, prices traded steadily with a negative bias at INR 2330 per quintal, influenced by small new arrivals from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Buyers in Karnataka are not actively purchasing, anticipating a pickup in new crop supplies from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the coming weeks.

Barring any weather-related disruptions, maize prices are anticipated to trade steady to weak in the near term, reflecting the cautious sentiments prevailing in the market.

This report provides insights into the current maize market dynamics, highlighting the cautious approach of buyers and the impact of new crop arrivals on price sentiments across different regions.
