MUMBAI (Commodities control) – Tur, Urad, Chana, Kabuli Chickpea, Masoor and White Pea slipped for the week ended 30th April amid dull trade activity. Only Moong prices remained more or less unchanged.
Demand in pulses has been struggling because of rising covid cases across the country.
We do not expect the situation to improve immediately as various states and UT continue to remain under restrictions for at least next two weeks.
On supply side the availability of pulses in spot market is getting tighter as mandis across the country are either voluntarily closed or have negligible arrivals.
Overall Pulses prices are in a state of unwanted balance with lower demand and limited stock in hand which will keep prices highly volatile.

Imported Masoor (Mumbai):
Canada crimson variety Masoor along with Australia Masoor in Mumbai dropped by Rs 50-125 each at Rs 6,075-6,125/100Kg and Rs 6,175, respectively as millers refrained from purchasing at prevailing rates.
Similarly, Canada crimson variety Masoor at Hajira-Mundra port fell each by Rs 25-50 at Rs 6,075/100kg and Rs 6,000, respectively, while at Kandla it was priced at Rs 5,950/100Kg, down Rs 25.
Demand and sale counter in processed Masoor witnessed dull activity. Masoor dal traded lower at Rs 7,200-7,250/100Kg.
However, on supply side mandis across the country are either voluntarily closed or have negligible arrivals. Depleting stock of imported Masoor and no further overseas supply due to higher parity are likely to support prices. Stockist-Corporates who are holding significant stock in hand may not want to sell now due to limited availability of stocks.
Masoor prices in Canada ruled firm against ongoing accumulations of product to cover outstanding sales commitments. Market is supported due to persistent worries about potential growing conditions because of dryness across parts of Canada and the United States. That will become a greater concern as seeding advances in May. The greater concern for markets heading into the coming week are the April 27 seeding intentions estimates for Canada.

White Pea (Kanpur):
New White Pea prices slipped Rs 75-100 at Rs 5,050/100Kg (dal quality) and Rs 5,200 (40% filter quality) at Kanpur market, due to thin trade activity from local and outstation markets.
As per Kanpur based trader, prices of White Pea is likely to get support at lower rates due to negligible carryover stock. Millers-traders along with stockiest and bulk buying from big companies will be active in purchasing as the pipeline is empty.
Moreover, imported White pea stock is also negligible after India banned the import of the yellow peas. Customs department has not released the imported pulses yet, as the release will contradict government’s existing policy.
