Muzaffarnagar, October 28 (Commoditiescontrol) The government of Uttar Pradesh is reportedly mulling for providing free ration to the PDS beneficiaries till March 2022 as assembly polls are round the corner.

As per the media reports, the state govt is working on a plan to ensure free ration to the poor till March 2022 as an extension to the existing free food distribution scheme of the central govt, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna, PMGKAY.

This scheme was launched last year in view of Covid-19 pandemic and Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in June this year to extend the scheme till Diwali.

Under this scheme, 3 kilogram 5kg of grain, rice or wheat, is provided to every ration card holder free of cost every month. The govt of Uttar Pradesh is reportedly considering a plan to add one kilo of pulse, one litre of edible oil and a packet of salt.
