Area under Rabi crops reported 689.14 lakh ha, up 1% from last year

New Delhi, 28 January (Commoditiescontrol) Area under rabi crops has been recorded 689.14 lakh hectares as on date, showed the sowing coverage data released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Friday.

As per the data, sowing coverage of all major rabi crops reported this season is higher by 1.2% compared to the corresponding data a year ago. Acreage of wheat, the chief rabi crop, is 342.37 lakh ha against 345.46 lakh ha. However, area under pulses is 166.43 lakh ha, up 1.58 lakh ha from last year’s corresponding data. Oilseed acreage rose to 102.04 lakh ha from 83.19 lakh ha.

Wheat: About 342.37 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to 345.86 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. Thus 3.49 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Madhya Pradesh (3.98 lakh ha) and Bihar (0.76 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Uttar Pradesh (1.89 lakh ha), Rajasthan (1.62 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.37 lakh ha), Haryana (1.34 lakh ha), Gujarat (1.16 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.29 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.23 lakh ha), Punjab (0.20 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.07 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.05 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.05 lakh ha) and Jammu & Kashmir (0.03 lakh ha) .
Rice: About 28.16 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to 34.90 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. Thus 6.74 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. More area is reported from the States of Tamil Nadu (0.87 lakh ha) and Kerala (0.10 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (5.66 lakh ha), Odisha (0.51 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.49 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.40 lakh ha), Assam (0.37 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.33 lakh ha) and Karnataka (0.01 lakh ha).

Pulses: About 166.43 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to 164.85 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. Thus 1.58 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Gujarat (2.75 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.62 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.08 lakh ha), Telangana (0.29 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.19 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.18 lakh ha), Jammu & Kashmir (0.12 lakh ha) and Punjab (0.02 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Odisha (1.66 lakh ha), Bihar (0.81 lakh ha) Karnataka (0.68 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.35 lakh ha), Assam (0.27 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.23 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.22 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.18 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.16 lakh ha), Haryana (0.05 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.04 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.01 lakh ha).
Coarse-cum-Nutri Cereals: About 50.14 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to 51.97 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. Thus 1.84 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Bihar (0.65 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.25 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.07 lakh ha), Telangana (0.07 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.05 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.04 lakh ha), Punjab (0.02 lakh ha), Himachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.01 lakh ha) and Jammu & Kashmir (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Maharashtra (1.99 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.26 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.24 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.13 lakh ha), Odisha (0.11 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.11 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.09 lakh ha), Haryana (0.07 lakh ha) and Assam (0.01 lakh ha).
Oilseeds: About 102.04 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to 83.19 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. Thus 18.85 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Rajasthan (9.62 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (4.09 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (1.86 lakh ha), Haryana (1.57 lakh ha), Gujarat (1.25 lakh ha), Telangana (0.50 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.28 lakh ha), Punjab (0.21 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.20 lakh ha) Maharashtra (0.09 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.04 lakh ha), Assam (0.03 lakh ha), Jammu & Kashmir (0.02 lakh ha) and Himachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Tamil Nadu (0.34 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.25 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.13 lakh ha), Bihar (0.10 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.07 lakh ha) and Manipur (0.02 lakh ha).
