Peanut Market Stable Despite Monsoon Season, Prices Unaffected by Increased Moisture Content

MUMBAI, 5 Jul (Commoditiescontrol): The peanut market in Gujarat have maintained steady tone even as ongoing monsoon season led an increased in moisture content. Traders said that the natural moisture content in peanuts typically ranges from 4.5% to 5.00%. However, due to the monsoon season, this has increased to between 5.5% and 7.00%, preventing a rise in prices.

Currently, peanut oil prices are holding strong at Rs 1,525 per 10 kg. In contrast, the price of peanuts remain stable despite a decrease in arrivals and steady demand from millers. The increased moisture content has impacted the quality of peanuts, which in turn has affected pricing.

Due to continuous rain in Uttar Pradesh, the arrival of peanuts to Gujarat has declined. Besides, slow pace of arrival, the moisture content is not suitable for crushing. Moisture content peanuts from Mainpuri is very high at 12-13%, making them unsellable. Today, one lot of Mainpuri peanuts arrived in Saurashtra, priced at Rs 1,100 per 20 kg.

Gondal Mandi witnessed significant trade activity in peanuts today, with an arrival of around 8,000 bags. Out of these, 6,275 bags were traded, indicating a strong demand for the crop. The average quality peanuts were priced between Rs 1,146-1,226 per 20 kg, while the best quality peanuts fetched a price range of Rs 1,161-1,301 per 20 kg. Moreover, new peanuts also saw a decent trade volume, with around 600 bags being traded at a price range of Rs 1,150-1,321 per 20 kg.

Rajkot Mandi witnessed a significant arrival of peanuts today, with 6,500 bags reaching the market. The average quality peanuts were priced between Rs 1,125-1,245 per 20 kg, while the best quality peanuts fetched a price range of Rs 1,142-1,275 per 20 kg. The overall arrival of peanuts in the Saurashtra region was around 17,000 bags, indicating a robust supply of the crop.

North Gujarat region also witnessed significant peanut arrivals today, with various mandis receiving substantial quantities of the crop. Deesa Mandi received 11,060 bags, with prices ranging between Rs 951 to Rs 1,431 per 20 kg. Palanpur Mandi saw an arrival of around 11,803 bags, with prices between Rs 951 and Rs 1,546 per 20 kg. Panthawada received around 10,490 bags, with prices ranging from Rs 1,050 to Rs 1,522 per 20 kg. Overall, the region saw an arrival of around 40,000 bags of peanuts, indicating a robust supply.

Overall, the peanut market remains stable and peanut oil prices observed firm trend despite challenges posed by the monsoon.
