MUMBAI, Jul 10 (Commoditiescontrol):The closure of Canada's west coast ports due to a strike by approximately 7,500 port workers is expected to have a greater impact on lentils compared to other special crops and pulses. This is because lentils primarily rely on bulk conventional movement through west coast ports, while container shipments through east coast ports are less affected.
Fortunately, the timing of the strike is somewhat favorable as July and August are considered slower months for bulk movement. However, it's important to note that historically, July loadings of lentils accounted for an average of 10% of the annual total, while August represented just 3%. The most critical month for bulk export movement of lentils is September, which typically constitutes around 17% of the yearly total.
