Mumbai, October 18 (CommoditiesControl): Over the past month, there have been concerns regarding dry weather conditions in the major Tur growing regions of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Maharashtra:
Vidarbha: Benefitting from a significant rainfall surplus in September (+57%), crop conditions here are notably favorable.
Marathwada: This region requires more rain to optimize crop development, following an insufficient rainfall in August and a slightly above-average rainfall in September (+20%). Overall, Maharashtra presents a varied picture in terms of crop health.
Karnataka:
Positive Outlook: Districts like Gulbarga, Yadgir, and Bidar have experienced good rainfall, leading to healthy crop conditions.
Areas of Concern: Vijayapur and Raichur face crop-related challenges due to a significant rainfall deficit in August (-72%), despite almost normal rainfall in September (-5%).
Recently, there have been indications of colder nights accompanied by dew, both of which can aid in crop recovery. However, to further improve crop prospects, a bout of rainfall is crucial for the primary Tur growing regions in North Karnataka and Marathwada.
As of now, owing to a delay in sowing activities, the crop is predominantly in its vegetative phase. The anticipated flowering period is within the next 10-15 days. It's worth noting that excessive dew during the flowering and pod setting stages can potentially lead to flower drops and suboptimal pod settings.
